Ever since the St. John of the Cross Catholic Worker Community of Cedar Rapids, Iowa Inc. opened the doors of the Catholic Worker House, we have been blessed with donors who care about those who have nowhere to go and feel helpless. Whether our donors realize it, their contributions turn into a nice bed with a warm blanket and pillow instead of the backseat of an old car or a bench at an all-night laundromat. Particularly for families with small children, we try to restore dignity to those who have reached the end of their rope and give them a chance to regroup and make better choices.
We receive regular donations from Catholic parishes in Cedar Rapids and surrounding communities. We have a very loyal group of regular donors who give generously every month. We have some donors who send us a check every time they get one of our quarterly newsletters and we have donors who remember us during the holiday season. The other day, someone directed that portion of their IRA be paid to us and we received the money while they avoided taxes. The bottom line is: without your sacrifices, we could not do what we do.
